Where to drop in for an aperitivo in St. Moritz: the sun terrace Le Jardin, the piano bar Le Bar, Champagne Saturday at 95 francs. No reservation needed.

An aperitivo in St. Moritz needs neither a reservation nor an occasion at Villa Beaulieu. Two places stand open: Le Jardin, the sun terrace above the lake, and Le Bar, the drawing room with the black piano. Both belong to villa guests and to everyone else who feels like coming by. You simply arrive.

Le Jardin: the sun terrace above the lake

Le Jardin slopes south toward the water. From here you look out over Lake St. Moritz and the mountains behind it. Old hedges frame the garden, tables are set about in the green, and parasols wait for the afternoon.

People come for a late lunch, a coffee in between, or an aperitivo as the light turns gold. You find a spot and stay as long as you like. Most guests treat the terrace like a second living room by their second visit.

The menu follows the season: charcuterie, cheese, small plates. None of it is complicated, and that is exactly the point. More about the terrace is on Le Jardin.

Le Bar: a piano bar without a stage

Le Bar is our room inside. Deep banquettes, warm light, a black piano played on many evenings. There is no stage, no cover charge and no printed programme. Someone sits down to play, and the room grows quieter.

Come for a cocktail, a glass of wine, or the last drink of the evening. When the weather outside will not cooperate, the aperitivo simply comes in with you. Everything about the bar is on Le Bar.

The best evenings here were never planned. Someone sits down at the piano, two tables pull together, and suddenly it's half past one.

Champagne Saturday

On Saturdays we set a bottle of Lallier champagne for 95 francs out on the sunny terrace. You need no more occasion than the Engadin and the lake in front of you.

It is our favourite way to welcome the weekend, and the only recurring appointment in the villa that asks for no sign-up. Whatever else is coming, from piano evenings to seasonal occasions, is in the programme.

Four reasons to come without a plan

No reservation. Neither for the terrace nor for the bar. Anyone who wants certainty can call, but nobody has to.
No dress code. St. Moritz can be stiff. Not here.
No minimum spend. A coffee is a perfectly good reason to sit here.
No difference between inside and out. When it rains the aperitivo moves into the salon, and things get cosier rather than worse.

Where to find us

Villa Beaulieu stands at Via Arona 34, above Lake St. Moritz and a few minutes on foot from the centre. You can walk here from the station, and you will need no car in the valley.

If you happen to be in St. Moritz anyway: the lake circuit runs practically past our door, and an aperitivo afterwards is the logical continuation. What else the valley offers is covered by Engadin St. Moritz; our own suggestions are under experiences.

When it should become more than an aperitivo

For private occasions we open the whole villa. The Ballroom seats up to 70, the Brasserie hosts up to 50 guests for private lunches and dinners. If you are planning the apéro as the opening act of a wedding or a corporate gathering, everything is under events, or simply write to us.

And if you would rather not go home after that last drink: thirteen rooms and suites are one staircase up.
